ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT: With the dawn of new millennium, the most radical revolution in the field of electronic technology is that of Bio-Medical Instrumentation.  It is a course that paves a link between doctors and engineers.  It involves design and implementation of medical devices and systems.

FACILITIES

Industrial visits were arranged to L & T Medical Division, Mysore, Sree Chitra Thirunal Institute of Medical Science, Cancer Institute, Adayar, GE Medical Systems, Bangalore, Genie, Mysore.

Industry Institute Interaction with GE Medical Systems, Electronic Engineering Corporation, Silicon Labs are being established.

Eminent Professionals including doctors and engineers from industry(R&D) and institutions deliver guest lectures.

 CURRICULUM

The department has well-established laboratories where equipment with latest technologies are used.  The labs include, Image Processing Lab, Diagnostic & Therapeutic Lab, Digital Signal Processing Lab, Medical Electronics Lab, Bio-Sensors and Transducers Lab, Emerging fields like VLSI design, Virtual Instrumentation are also introduced in the curriculum.

OPPORTUNITIES

This course has got wide scope in various fields. 

In the Software field – creating medical software to support new generation medical imaging systems.

In public sector companies – developing and manufacturing of new medical equipment.

In hospitals – maintenance and servicing of all medical equipment.

PLACEMENT

Our students are placed as Bio-Medical Engineers is many leading hospitals.  Almost 50% of the students are placed in various public and private sectors.  Around 30% of them continue their higher studies in reputed institutions in India and abroad.
